Seminar by Benjamin Nottelet / IBMM - Montpellier

Tuesday 18th December 2018 - 2pm - Maroni room / MHT

Benjamin Nottelet, researcher at the IBMM laboratory at Montpellier will give a talk about: Degradable polymers for medical imaging

Medical imaging is a cornerstone of modern medicine. In that context the development of innovative imaging systems combining biomaterials and contrast agents (CA) for improved diagnostic and theranostic applications is mandatory. However, such systems must be developed keeping in mind the regulatory requirements. For this reason, and due to their long track record in the medical field, the use of classical aliphatic (co)polyesters like poly(lactide) (PLA), poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) and poly(e-caprolactone) (PCL) appears as a sound strategy to develop such systems

In this presentation, we will focus on the development of degradable macromolecular contrast agents based on PLA and PCL for X-ray and MRI visualizations. Strategies of polymer post-modification or surface modification will be discussed with respect to some biomedical applications in the field of implantable medical devices or tissue engineering.
